United States – Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Center & Museum

Geechee refers to the African-based culture that has survived along coastal Georgia for more than 250 years. Kunda is a Sarakolé word that means “compound” or “house of hope.”

Considered the epicenter of Gullah Geechee’s history and culture, Geechee Kunda is often the site of festivals and tours, hosting visitors from near and far.

Opened in 2001, the Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Center and Museum in Riceboro, Georgia, serves as a cultural and heritage tourism site to acknowledge and celebrate the important history of the Gullah Geechee people.
